DULIAJAN: Locals in Duliajan are in a state of fear due to a significant oil leak from an Oil India Limited (OIL) pipeline. The residents are worried about their safety as crude oil is leaking out of the Solakotoki area at a rapid rate.
The leak occurred in front of a house which belongs to an individual named Rupeshwar Gogoi, and the area has been heavily contaminated by crude oil. Given how serious the situation is, the family is in constant fear of a possible fire.
Residents assert that OIL authorities have not yet acted promptly to stop the leak, despite the situation being very serious. Concerned residents have called for OIL officials to act swiftly and address the problem, stating they live in constant fear. They claimed that even though they notified the authorities, nothing has been done to resolve the situation.
Earlier this month, residents of southern Sootea were reported to be living in fear due to the presence of stray tigers from Kaziranga National Park, which had been venturing into nearby villages during the night.
In two weeks, five cattle had been killed by these tigers. The Biswanath wildlife division, in collaboration with the forest department and Sootea police, took precautionary measures to curb the tigers' movement, which had reduced their appearances.
However, later that week, a stray tiger killed a goat belonging to Bishnu Kharka from Tewalipal.
