TINSUKIA: Close on the heels of the October 23 abduction, 5 armed miscreants kidnapped the owner of a stone crusher mill and his nephew at Jagun 9th Mile in Tinsukia district, close to the Arunachal Pradesh border, on Wednesday.
According to reports, the kidnappers, suspected to be ULFA (I) cadres, came to the crusher mill in a dumper and kidnapped the owner, Krishna Chetry, and his nephew, Prakash Chetry (24 years). They, however, let off Krishna Chetry due to his sickness at the bank of the Tirap River, but before decamping, the miscreants took away his pistol and cell phone. The kidnappers crossed the river with Prakash and entered Arunachal Pradesh amid firing from Assam Police. There was no extortion demand, said Krishna Chetry after release from the abductors. It can be mentioned here that in the same location, Gautam Basumatary, a tea company supervisor, was abducted by suspected ULFA (I) militants on October 23, 2024, whose whereabouts are still unknown.
