Assam: One Dead, Several Injured In Devastating Fire In Moirabari

MOIRABARI: A massive fire broke out in Ward No. 6 of Barthaal Kachari Gaon, under the Dalai Gaon Panchayat in Moirabari located in Assam's Morigaon district on the night of February 8. The fire took the life of a young man and caused a lot of damage.

The fire is believed to have started in a wooden structure within one of the homes, quickly spreading and trapping several people inside. Amidst the chaos, residents rushed to escape from the rapidly advancing flames, resulting in multiple individuals suffering severe injuries.

Tragically, 22-year-old Moinul Haque, who had a physical disability, couldn’t escape the fire and tragically died in his sleep as it engulfed his home. The fire destroyed two houses and everything present inside, causing damages worth over Rs 10 lakh.

Local people and the Moirabari Fire Department tried for hours to stop the fire, but by then, everything in the houses were destroyed. Moinul Haque’s body was taken to Morigaon Civil Hospital for a post-mortem, and the authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire and evaluating the damage.

Meanwhile, earlier last month, a fire had broken out in the Saturday weekly market in Boko on January 18, very early morning. The fire had completely burned down three tea shops. The fire had destroyed property worth Rs 6 lakh, said Hriday Mahanta, General Secretary of the market committee. The fire had been extinguished by the Boko Police and fire brigade overnight.
