NUMALIGARH: A tragic road accident occurred on National Highway 39 at Marangi's Purabangla under the jurisdiction of Numaligarh Police Station, resulting in the instantaneous death of one person and serious injury to another.

According to eyewitnesses, a Tata Intra goods carrier vehicle (AS05HC6737) was struck by an unidentified trailer, causing the vehicle to lose control and crash into a nearby shop owned by Dipa Chetri. The accident resulted in the immediate death of Kartik Bauri (27 years), a resident of West Bengal and the co-driver of the vehicle. The driver, Ridip Gogoi, a resident of Lurukihat and a member of the Numaligarh Oil Refinery Drivers' Association, sustained severe injuries. The accident also caused significant damage to the shop.

The incident occurred last night, and local residents promptly informed the police. A police team arrived at the scene, recovered the body, and arranged for a post-mortem examination. The injured driver was shifted to the hospital for treatment. The police have taken custody of the accident vehicle and initiated an investigation. It is worth noting that the national highway passing through the Greater Numaligarh area has long been plagued by complaints of heavy vehicle traffic and speeding at night, yet the concerned authorities have failed to take adequate measures to address these concerns.
