GUWAHATI: As per the report of last year, a major change has been witnessed in the illegal hunt of Rhino in Assam which shows a big drop in rhino horn poaching.

In the year 2021, the state saw only one incident of rhino poaching which was reported in the month of April last year as informed by DGP (Director General of Police) GP Singh through his Twitter handle on Saturday 15 January.

The DGP also shared year-wise data on the poaching of Rhinos in the state along with the recent update in the tweet on Saturday 15 January.

Singh's tweets read that the containment of poaching of one-horned rhino has been an important achievement for the Anti-Poaching Task Force.

Singh also wrote the tweet complimenting the Kaziranga personnel deployed in Reserve forest and Kaziranga National park. He also complemented the Assam police for their role and efforts in controlling the illegal hunting of One-horned rhinoceros across the state.

Notably, the Anti-Poaching Task Force was constituted by the Assam government in the month of June 2021 with the objective to protect the one-horned rhinos under the chairmanship and leadership of DGP GP Singh.

Singh tweeted that the Anti-Poaching Task Force would perform mercilessly in putting an end to the illegal act of rhino hunting in the states and also aims to abolish the practice of such menace.

According to the official data shared by GP Singh through his tweet, there has been a total of 7 incidents reported against rhino poaching in Assam in the year 2018. After that particular year, there has been a significant drop in the number of cases registered about the same matter of rhino poaching.

In the year 2019, the total number of rhino poaching cases reported in the state was three. The number then again decreased in the year 2020 with only two cases of rhino killings in Assam and of now in 2021 only one case has been reported which is a great success for state police officials and also for forest personnel.
