GOLAGHAT: At a time when parents are seen scrambling for admission of their wards to private schools, an exceptional scene was seen at the Golaghat Government Bezbaruah Higher Secondary School where more than 300 students with parents gathered at the school campus on Tuesday to take admission.

Seeing such an atmosphere in the 140-year-old Golaghat Government Bezbaruah HS School, well-wishers of the school and those associated with the educational institution expressed satisfaction and these scenes at the oldest government school shows that the confidence of parents in the Assamese medium schools has not yet diminished.

It may be recalled that the Golaghat Government Bezbaruah Higher Secondary School was established in 1886 during the British Government. Started at the initiative of Late Govind Chandra Bezbaruah, the eldest brother of Sahityarathi Raxaraj Laxminath Bezbaruah, the school has been making significant contributions to the educational sector of the district for centuries. Anupam Saikia of Assam’s only Rangela Dhirendra Nath Buragohain, who got a PhD degree from IIT Bombay in 1969, and Kankonjyoti Saikia, who stood first in the Assam Civil Examination in 2021, received their high school education in this school. Moreover, over the last decade, many meritorious students, who have passed out from this school with fame, have been serving the country by being established in the country and abroad. The school carries this legacy and has shown excellent results in the high school examination and the final examination of class XII in the past.

On Tuesday, more than three hundred students thronged the selection test for class VI. This scene has brought good news for Assamese medium schools. In this regard, the In-charge Principal of Golaghat Government Bezbaruah Higher Secondary School Ranjan Bikash Chutia told reporters that around three hundred students had filled the forms for the selection test for admission to class VI in the upcoming academic year. The selection test will be conducted among those students and on the basis of merit, admission to class VI will be conducted. Further, he said that the selection test for admission to class IX will also be conducted in two days.
