GUWAHATI : The death toll of Cachar Paper Mill, that has been taken over by the Assam government, has increased to a number of 113. On 29th of December, an ex employee of Cachar paper mill died after fighting a long battle against some liver disease.

The deceased has been identified as Shyam Nayak, a resident of Retired Colony located in Badarpur Constituency. The area falls under Karimganj district. The man died in his own residence at the age of 63.

A union body of the Nagaon and Cachar paper mills, claimed that government has failed to release salaries for the past 72 months. Workers of paper mills of Assam are living in terrible conditions surrounded with stress, sufferings and trauma. The people engaged in this sector are slowly losing all hopes towards life.

This was stated by Joint Action Committee of Recognised Unions (JACRU). The statement further mentioned that, only under the dynamic leadership of CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, the state administration came up with a Relief Package, which includes an amount of the main salary.

However, the unparalleled destruction caused earlier cannot be reversed back. The union body asserted that, the damaged caused earlier is now resulting in loss of lives just one after the other.

It holds the government of India responsible for this phase, and that the administration is accountable for all the harsh impacts. They mentioned about the CM prior to Himanta Biswa Sarma, who according to the union body failed miserably in resolving the matter.

Apart from the natural deaths, 4 suicide cases has been registered from the HPC paper mills of the region. The statement by JACRU further added that, all deaths in the government owned industry is the result of utter negligence of government at the Centre.

They believe its time for People's Court to act up in order to restrict the ongoing injustice against human.
