DIBRUGARH: Former Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), Dibrugarh district president Parag Jyoti Baruah, along with hundreds of his supporters, joined Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) on Monday in Dibrugarh. AGP President and state Agriculture Minister Atul Bora and Health Minister Keshab Mahanta were present and welcomed Baruah along with his supporters to AGP.

Ahead of the Assam Panchayat elections, the joining of Parag Jyoti Baruah along with his supporters was a big jolt for the AJP.

Speaking to reporters, Atul Bora said, “We are in alliance with BJP in the upcoming Panchayat elections and are getting a good response. The joining of Parag Jyoti Baruah to AGP is a big boost for the party. We are fighting the upcoming Panchayat election together and are getting good response from the people.”

“AGP is a regional party born out of struggle. The party had faced lots of struggle and sacrifices in early days. The dedicated party members have done everything to strengthen regionalism. Our main objective is regionalism and to strengthen regionalism, we need good and dedicated people. We are sure that the joining of Parag Jyoti Baruah to AGP will strengthen our party in Dibrugarh district,” Atul Bora said.

Bora further said, “The position of Congress and other Opposition parties are not so good. Actually, they are not in the field. The Congress is now zero and soon will become a big zero in the upcoming elections.”

“Under the leadership of Parag Jyoti Baruah, more than 200 people joined AGP. It’s good news for the AGP and we are hopeful that the new members will work hard to strengthen regionalism,” said Keshab Mahanta.

Chabua MLA Punakon Baruah and AGP General Secretary Sunil Rajkonwar were among others present at the joining programme.
