DIBRUGARH: The Department of Political Science, DHSK College, Dibrugarh, successfully organized its annual Parents-Teachers-Students’ Meet, reaffirming its commitment to fostering academic excellence through active collaboration. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, parents, and faculty members, filling the hall to capacity.
The programme commenced with a formal introduction and felicitation of the invited guests, including Dr Sashi Kanta Saikia, Principal of DHSK College, Dr Pranabjyoti Kakoti, Guardian Representative of the College Governing Body, Dr Anup Jyoti Bharali, Principal of MDKG College, Dr Joydev Gogoi, Designate Principal of DHSK Commerce College, Dr Dipankaj Gogoi, IQAC Coordinator, DHSK College, Dr JP Phukan, Students’ Welfare Incharge, and Dr Mridul Sharma, Controller of Examination, DHSK College, along with the faculty members of the Department of Political Science.
Dr Lamkholal Doungel, Associate Professor & Head, Department of Political Science, introduced the objective of the meeting and warmly welcomed the parents and invited guests. The distinguished guests were felicitated with traditional Assamese phulam gamosa by Dr Nirmali Pegu, while Sivanath Chutia, faculty member of the department, anchored the event.
In his address, Dr SK Saikia apprised parents of various initiatives undertaken by the college to enhance students’ academic experiences and highlighted recent achievements of the institution.
The invited guests and several parents shared their insights on improving students’ academic performance, discipline, and overall well-being. A key concern raised during the discussion was the declining interest of students in studies and classroom attendance.
The speakers unanimously emphasized the need for greater parental involvement and stronger engagement from teachers to address this challenge. Dr L Doungel urged parents to adopt a supportive and understanding approach toward their wards, emphasizing that today’s students require guidance with patience and care rather than aggression.
Both Dr Anup Jyoti Bharali and Dr Joydev Gogoi stressed that academic success is not solely measured by marks but also by a student’s overall growth and potential.
The programme also provided an interactive platform for parents to share their perspectives and suggestions regarding their children’s academic progress. Adding further depth to the discussion, Dr Biraj Dutta presented a brief overview of the new curriculum under NEP 2020, providing valuable insights into the evolving academic framework.
The event concluded on a positive note, with attendees expressing appreciation for the department’s initiative in fostering collaboration between students, parents, and teachers. The programme ended with closing remarks and a vote of thanks from Dr Doungel, Head of the Department.
