GAURISAGAR: The sole healthcare facility in greater Jhanji and the surrounding territories that is 100 years old is the Jhanji Subsidiary Health Centre, which is part of the Morabazar Block PHC in Sivasagar. It is situated close to the historic Maskhuwagarh on the Jhanji River's bank, which separates the districts of Jorhat and Sivasagar. It should be mentioned that the Jhanji Subsidary Health Centre is not easily accessible following the extension of the four-lane highway. The health centre is located just 30 meters away from the old NH-37 in Sivasagar district and now patients have to walk more than a kilometer to reach it due non availability of short cut way. The Sivasagar Loka Nirman department (formerly Public Works Department) had constructed a concrete staircase from the old NH-37 for patients to walk to the health centre. The staircase was used by patients to access the hospital , to Sunday weekly market, various businesses established and the late Biman Chandra Gogoi Memorial Public Hall in Jhanji. However, the former concrete staircase was demolished in order to widen the road as the NH-37 is currently being upgraded to a four-lane highway. In addition, a flyover has already been constructed at the site. However, the lack of the staircase has made it difficult for the locals to get to the hospitals and markets. Noted that patients had to walk 30 meters to reach the health centre on NH-37 but now they have to hire either auto or battery rickshaws. The residents have demanded the NHIDCL to provide an easy road from the four-lane NH to the medical centre and have submitted separate memoranda to the local MLA Pradip Hazarika and the Sivasagar District Collector for taking appropriate steps in this regard.
