BONGAIGAON: Assam police apprehended an individual involved in illegal drug smuggling during an operation along the national highway in Chapaguri in Assam's Chirang district. The suspect has been identified as Chandan Sah who hails from New Bongaigaon.
Authorities recovered 154.36 grams of suspected heroin from Sah's possession. The drugs were concealed in two soap boxes and 20 plastic containers.
The Chirang police have launched a detailed investigation into the case and are working to gather more information about the suspect's activities.
Meanwhile, earlier this week, in a major crackdown against narcotics trafficking, Yaba tablets valued at approximately Rs. 15 crore were seized by law enforcement authorities in Assam's Cachar district.
Based on credible inputs, a vehicle coming from a neighbouring state was intercepted at Ghoongur Bypass in a special operation conducted by the Cachar police.
The cops carried out a thorough inspection of the vehicle, which led to the discovery of 50,000 Yaba tablets, concealed in five separate packets.
Two individuals were arrested by the police in connection with this major drug bust, and the suspected duo was taken into custody. The vehicle used in the transportation of these illegal drugs was also confiscated.
Likewise, acting on a tip-off about a narcotics consignment being transported from Dimapur to Bijni, the Assam Police successfully intercepted a white Bolero (Registration No. AS 01 FZ 7976) and arrested four individuals allegedly involved in a drug trafficking racket.
Official reports suggested that peddlers from Lower Assam were transporting heroin. To intercept the vehicle, authorities established a checkpoint near the Hajo Chowk flyover. However, upon detecting police presence, the suspects altered their route and diverted toward Paltan Bazar. They parked the Bolero within the premises of Hotel Chirom Palace in an attempt to avoid detection.
