GUWAHATI: For their alleged involvement in the general science question paper leak event of the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination, 22 persons have been detained by the CID, Assam

GP Singh, the director general of police (DGP) of Assam, used Twitter to update the public on the case's progress.

"Reference paper leaking case for the General Science (C3) section of the Assam Board of Secondary Education's HSLC exam: At Guwahati, North Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Sadiya, Dibrugarh, and Tinsukia, 22 people have been apprehended. We are still devoted to identifying the network of individuals responsible for the question paper leak and the conspirators’, the tweet read.

Teachers Jyotirekha Borgohain and Herambo Kumar Das, as well as driver Bindeshwar Tumung, who works at the Bhauri Devi Sarawgi High School in Guwahati, has been named as three of the allegedly 22 persons.

While the other two are being held at the CID Police Station, Jyotirekha Borgohain is being kept at the Panbazar All-Women Police Station.

Six other students have also been brought to the station because of their alleged involvement. According to sources, five of them are students at Salt Brook Academy in Dibrugarh, while one is from Gogamukh.

On Monday, a CID team started looking into the paper leak. Due to an alleged social media question paper leak, the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) abruptly cancelled the general science test on Sunday.

According to a SEBA announcement, the English paper exams had previously been cancelled at one testing location in the Cachar district. The General Science HSLC exam that was postponed will now take place on March 30 in all state centres.

Ranoj Pegu, the state's minister of education, made the announcement via a tweet from his official account. On the other hand, the postponed English test at JR Higher Secondary School, Ganirgram in Cachar district, will take place on March 28.
