MANGALDAI: "The Assam Police is grateful to the people of Assam for their overwhelming support in fighting against the corruption," said Special Director General of Police GP Singh while talking to the media persons during his maiden visit at Mangaldai on Thursday. En route on his way to Tezpur, Spl DPG Singh made a short halt at police guest here at Mangaldai.

"The Assam Police under the able guidance of Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma is determined to continue its constant operation against the corrupt government officials and till date 43 officials and employees have been arrested under the provision of Prevention of Corruption Act this year. 14 corrupt officials have been arrested in the month of August. It may take one or two years, but with the support and cooperation of the people Assam Police is highly hopeful and determined to eradicate corruption from the society," added GP Singh.

Referring to the arrest of fundamental elements and Jehadis from different parts of the State, he said that a total of 40 persons were arrested since February for their involvement in Jehadi activities in the State who were closely linked with international militant outfits.

Spl DGP also reviewed the law & order and overall situation of Darrang district with Superintendent of Police Prasanta Saikia and other senior officials. On his arrival at Mangaldai, the armed constables offered the visiting Spl DGP a guard of honour.
