DIBRUGARH: "Law should be obeyed by all sections of people in the society and people should extend all forms of cooperation to police for sustaining the rule of law instead of criticizing their action," stated Assam's Director General of Police (DGP) Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta while addressing police officers from Dibrugarh, Tinsukia Districts and Sadiya at a meeting held at the Arunachal Guest House near Mohanbari Airport on Tuesday.

The meeting discussed various issues pertaining to crime related activities. DGP Mahanta also took stock of the pending cases in various police stations of these districts and the reasons behind why the cases remain pending. He also assessed those police stations where the largest number of cases remain pending.

While talking to media persons here at Dibrugarh, DGP Mahanta said "Assam Police should upgrade their knowledge about criminal and civil laws of the land and how to write case diaries. In fact, Assam Police must be smarter in all aspects." He further said that the police should be more humane and sensitive in dealing with women-related offences.
