
NAGAON: In a significant operation, Assam Police has successfully intercepted two large drug consignments, seizing narcotics worth a total of Rs. 3 crore. The operations were carried out in Karbi Anglong and Nagaon districts, marking a decisive blow against the illegal drug trade in the state.
The first operation was conducted by the Karbi Anglong Police, who intercepted a vehicle at Amarajan in Bokajan. Upon inspection, they discovered 745 grams of heroin, valued at Rs. 2 crore. The police were quick to apprehend one individual in connection with the seizure.
In the second operation, Nagaon Police stopped a vehicle at the Borghat bypass and found a large quantity of 19,296 Dicyclomine Hydrochloride capsules. These capsules are often misused as a sedative and painkiller. The capsules are worth about Rs. 1 crore. Three people were arrested, and the investigation is still ongoing to understand the full details of their activities.
Meanwhile, in a major crackdown on smuggling activities, Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police had joined hands to tackle illegal trade in the northeastern state. On Sunday, based on reliable intelligence, they had launched an operation in Champhai district, which had led to the seizure of five kilograms of heroin, valued at Rs 39.75 lakh. The operation had taken place in the General Area of Crossing Point III (Laipian Kai).
During the operation, a 52-year-old woman named Zingengmawii was arrested on Saturday. She was believed to be connected to the heroin consignment. Both the woman and the seized drugs had been handed over to the Zokhawthar Police. This had prompted a detailed investigation into the wider drug trafficking network in the region.
