SARUPATHAR: The Assam Government has announced a complete lockdown in seven districts where the positivity rate of COVID-19 cases is high. The government imposed a round-the-clock curfew in Goalpara, Jorhat, Lakhimpur, Sonitpur, Biswanath, Morigaon and Golaghat districts as the number of coronavirus cases in these districts continue to increase despite the imposition of certain restrictions earlier. State Health and Family Welfare Minister Keshab Mahanta said that these restrictions would come into effect from July 7 and would remain effective until further orders.

Meanwhile, it was seen that many people in Sarupathar, Barpathar, Naojan and Uriamghat along Assam-Nagaland border under Golaghat district were out on the roads on Wednesday during the restriction period, violating prohibitory orders which was announced to limit the spread of the Novel Coronavirus.

Police had alerted the people not to come on the roads and avoid mass gathering to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

But many violated the prohibitory order and came out on the roads. Movement of individuals, except those who deal in vegetables, fruits, medical and other emergency duties, are strictly prohibited during the period of lockdown.

Trinayan Bhuyan, Subdivisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Dhansiri subdivision said, "Police will do anything to enforce all prohibitory orders. We will strictly deal against violators because they are putting other people's lives at risk."

In Sarupathar, 37 fresh positive cases were detected on Tuesday. Total 11 deaths related to COVID-19 have also been recorded with positive cases crossing 1,650 and 255 active cases till Tuesday.
