DEMOW: As per the instruction of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, under the patronage of Sivasagar District Congress Committee and in association with Thowra Block Congress Committee, a two-hour sit-in was staged in Demow Chariali on Thursday to protest against price rise and crime against women and to demand increase in the daily wage of tea labourers to Rs.351, 5 lakh jobs to unemployment youths, along with other issues.

The Congress leaders slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government. In the protest programme, Bhupen Bora, APCC president, Debabrata Saikia, MLA of Nazira constituency, Pranati Phukan, former MLA of Naharkatia constituency, Apurba Kumar Bhattacharjee, senior Congress leader, Manuranjan Konwar, INC candidate for Thowra constituency in the bye-election, along with other Congress leader were present.
