TINSUKIA: The Assam Pradesh Youth Congress Committee (APYCC) vehemently flayed the travel itinerary of Phani Sarma, State general secretary of BJP and prabhari of NE in Tinsukia district, and his participation in party meetings at Tinsukia and Sadiya along with minister Sanjay Kishan and Digboi legislator Suren Phukan during the lockdown period.

Masum Baruah, general secretary of APYCC, in a press release stated that Phani Sarma, a resident of red zone containment area of COVID-19, visited Tinsukia district and held a party meeting at Manab Kalyan Bhawan Tinsukia on March 26 where Labour Minister Sanjay Kishan and Digboi MLA Suren Phukan were present. He wondered how a senior functionary of the party could disobey COVID norms and disregard the efforts of the Prime Minister in containment of the pandemic. He also questioned the authority under whom he travelled across the State. The Tinsukia district administration ought to be responsible for according permission to hold the meeting or else the minister had misused his power and thereby violated COVID-19 protocol, he said. He demanded that all persons who came in contact with Phani Sarma must be quarantined.
