BOKAKHAT: Nature lover Prashanta Borah of Panidihingia village in the Mohura Mouza of Bokakhat subdivision, the birthplace of pioneering Assamese actress Aideu Handique, had begun a green revolution on May 1, 2016. He planted around 100 Jamun (black plum) saplings along the roadsides of Panidihingia and Mohura Jan.
Now, nearly 10 years later, about 40 of those Jamun trees have started bearing fruit. The villagers have been joyfully enjoying the Jamun, and people from nearby villages are collecting them, many even selling them in the local markets. Witnessing this has brought a different kind of happiness to Prashanta Borah, who planted and nurtured the trees entirely on his own initiative, creating an opportunity for the community to enjoy the fruits.
Because Jamun is known for its many health benefits, especially in treating various ailments, a large number of people now gather under the trees each morning.
