TEZPUR: On the eve of Rongali Bihu, the spirit of festivity came alive at Assam Valley Academy Senior Secondary School, Ketekibari, Tezpur, as teachers, students, and parents gathered to celebrate Pre-Rongali Bihu with a vibrant and culturally immersive programme. The school campus was brimming with enthusiasm, with participants dressed in traditional Assamese attire, setting the tone for the upcoming festival.

The celebration aimed to instil awareness about the rich traditions of Bohag Bihu among the younger generation. Principal and Director Abhijit Kalita stated that the event was not only a festive occasion but also an educational one, highlighting the deep-rooted customs and cultural significance of Rongali Bihu.

The air was filled with the mouthwatering aroma of traditional Assamese delicacies such as doi, chira, laru, pitha, and other sweets, adding a warm and festive charm to the occasion. Both students and teachers actively participated in various cultural presentations, proudly embracing Assam’s heritage.

The programme was formally inaugurated by Bijay Saikia, President of Assam Valley Academy, in the presence of Prince Bhuyan, retired professor of LOKD College, Dip Kumar Kalita, Senior Journalist and cultural activist, along with other dignitaries.

In his address, President Bijay Saikia emphasized the cultural and emotional significance of Bihu in Assamese society, urging everyone to safeguard and promote its heritage. The celebration featured enthusiastic performances of Bihu songs and dances by students and teachers, creating a joyful ambiance to welcome the Assamese New Year.

Adding to the educational aspect, the school unveiled a Bihu-themed display board, intricately decorated and designed to inform students about the rituals and traditions associated with Bohag Bihu. As a gesture of appreciation and community spirit, 100 artistes, writers, parents, and media personnel were honoured with bihuwans during the event. The celebration concluded with a traditional Bihu jalpan, where guests and attendees were served laru, pitha, and sweets, wrapping up the day with warmth and togetherness.
