Assam: Prime Accused of Nagaon Murder Case Arrested

NAGAON: Nagaon Police arrested the prime accused in the case of a gruesome murder of a woman from the Harijan Colony in Nagaon on Sunday. 

The arrested individual is identified as Subrot Mazumdar. 

On Sunday, a woman who was identified later as Rubi Dutta, was killed after being hacked repeatedly with a machete by Mazumdar and she bled to death in her own house. 

Later the body of the woman was found in a pool of blood, after which the neighbors called the police. 

The killer took the advantage of entering the house at a time when the deceased's husband was not at home. After that, he unleashed his monstrosity on the hapless woman who was on the phone with her mother at the time of the attack. 

The mother of the deceased, who was at the other end of the phone call, heard a loud sound, after which she couldn't hear her daughter's voice from the other side. Immediately she called and requested some neighbors to rush to her daughter's house as she was in some kind of danger. 

The neighbors rushed to the house but they were too late, as they found the bloodied body of Rubi Dutta on the floor of her house. 

Notably, Assam is witnessing a spike in murder cases as it recorded 1192 murders in 2021, the previous year in 2020 it recorded 1131 murders.

It is also to be noted here that, Assam is also witnessing a rising trend in the incidents of murder of women. 

"Cases of murder have witnessed increases, while all other types of crimes have declined in the year 2021 from January-July period", said a top police official of Assam Police in a statement.

Assam is increasingly becoming crime-prone with more than 3 murders reported every day in the state.

According to sources, the cities in Assam witnesses more murder cases compared to the village areas in the state.
