Silchar: Protest against torture on the Hindus and demand for the release of the detained saint in Bangladesh seemed to be in ascending mood in the Barak Valley as Silchar city saw two massive rallies on Tuesday. Buoyed by its successful ‘Bangladesh Chalo’ march in Sutarkandi’s Indo Bangla border in Sribhumi district, the newly-formed Sanatani Mancha staged a dharna in Silchar on Tuesday. On the other hand, Indian Forum for Bangladesh Peace, another newly formed platform of various organisations took out a protest demanding immediate release of Chinmoy Prabhu, the Chittagong based Hindu religious leader who was arrested in Dhaka in charge of treason. In both the demonstrations, the speakers demanded the immediate intervention of international bodies like UN as well strong step by the Indian government.

Earlier the Silchar Congress burnt the effigies of both Md. Yunus, the chief advisor of the Bangladesh interim government and S Jaishankar, the Indian foreign Minister. The opposition party alleged that Yunus failed to provide security to the minorities in his own country and Jaishankar failed to handle the situation in the neighbouring country with diplomatic excellence.
