DIBRUGARH: Assam Power Minister and Dibrugarh MLA Prasanta Phukan on Saturday inaugurated Rabindra Nritya and Rabindra Sangeet competition at Dibrugarh District Library. The programme was organized by Assam Linguistic Minorities Development Board (ALMDB) across Assam in connection with 164th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore. Speaking at the programme, Prasanta Phukan lauded the efforts of ALMDM for organizing such programme to encourage young generation on Rabindra Sangeet and Rabindra Nritya. “We should know the rich culture of Rabindra Sangeet but it has been seen that it was limited to some places. The young generation should know about Rabindranath Tagore and its creation. My father was a ardent listener of Rabindra Sangeet. From my childhood I am fascinated towards Rabindra Sangeet,” said Phukan. Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation (DMC) Mayor Dr Saikat Patra said, “We are observing 164th Birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore this year and in connection with the programme, we have organized Rabindra Sangeet and Rabindra Nritya across Assam.” “We have organized the Dibrugarh audition on April 19 and April 20 and those who win the competition here will participate in the final round in Guwahati. The final will be held on Guwahati on May 11 and May 12. The main objective of the programme is to encourage young generation and give them a platform to showcase their talent,” Patra said. The members of Assam Linguistic Minorities Development Board presented a Rabindra Sangeet.
