TINSUKIA: The Railway Board has requested a comprehensive report from the Chief Commercial Manager of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) regarding the reopening of the historic Doomdooma railway station on the Dibrugarh-Sadiya route. The move comes in response to a letter from Jorhat MP Gaurav Gogoi, who highlighted key issues concerning railway connectivity and infrastructure in Assam and the Northeast.

Nishith Lucas Tigga, Joint Director (G-3) of the Traffic Commercial Branch of the Railway Board, directed the NFR administration to submit a comprehensive report by July 21 in an official letter (No. 2025/TG-IV/1/NFR/04/MR) dated July 15. The proposal includes reopening the Doomdooma station along with the installation of a Passenger Reservation System (PRS) and a ticket counter for public convenience.

Aimed at improving railway services in the region, Gaurav Gogoi made 22 detailed recommendations in his letter to the Chairman of the Railway Board on July 1. These include the restoration of pre-COVID train stoppages, new stoppages to meet increasing passenger demand, construction of level crossings, and extension of key train routes such as the Guwahati-New Bongaigaon (55810) to Fakiragram and the re-extension of the Brahmaputra Mail to Dibrugarh.

Gogoi emphasised that these measures would significantly enhance connectivity in Assam, reduce regional disparities, and improve integration of the Northeast with the national railway network. He urged the Railway Board to act promptly on these suggestions.
