NAGAON: A District Level Road Safety Committee (DRSC) meeting was held on February 11 at the DC office Conference Hall in Assam's Nagaon, chaired by District Commissioner Narendra Kumar Shah.

The meeting focused on various road safety measures aimed at reducing road accidents and making Nagaon an accident-free district in Assam. The meeting was attended by Nagaon’s Superintendent of Police, Swapnanil Deka, DDC Debajani Chaudhury, and other concerned officials.

Meanwhile, in an effort to reduce traffic congestion and ensure public safety, the Office of the Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, has issued an order banning all types of processions within the city.

The order, issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, aims to minimize disruptions caused by processions, which often lead to significant traffic jams and crowding. These events can also delay emergency services, affecting public safety and convenience.

The order, signed by Imdad Ali, APS, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Administration), was issued on 10th February 2025. Violating the order will lead to penalties under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.

Individuals who wish to challenge the order may file a written objection with the Deputy Commissioner of Police for its cancellation or modification.

Last month, in a significant clean-up operation, Guwahati Traffic Police removed 174 abandoned or unattended vehicles from various city streets over the past few days. The seized vehicles were either returned to their owners, sent to garages, recovered as stolen vehicles, or placed in designated parking spaces.
