BARPETA: The Excise Department, Barpeta, conducted several well-coordinated patrols and excise raids in an effort to curb illegal liquor and improve road safety in light of the New Year's festivities on Tuesday, December 31, 2024.

Under the Barpeta Excise Circle, the Barpeta Excise Team (Sadar) carried out operations in Sarthebari Bazaar, Belbari, Rauli, Gahiya, Nagaon, and Keotkuchi. About 80 litres of illegal alcohol were found by the authorities and immediately discarded.

In order to verify adherence to traffic and safety laws, naka checks were carried out simultaneously on the Barpeta-Jania and Barpeta-Howly roads.

In a different drive, the Sorbhog Excise Team patrolled Kalgachia Road and Bolak Road within the Sorbhog Excise Circle under the direction of the Inspector of Excise.

Along NH-27, they inspected six roadside businesses, including well-known restaurants like Hotel Machan, P.R. Dhaba, and Maihang Resort, and they checked 29 cars and no violations were found.

The Barpeta Road Excise Team also carried out checks at Khairabari that targeted drunk driving and patrolled roadside businesses along highways.

Three cases were registered out of the eight raids that were carried out in total. Inspections were conducted on 62 vehicles, including both light and large freight carriers. The District Administration of Barpeta has emphasised that the regulations were intended to ensure public safety and deter criminal activity during festive celebrations.
