DIBRUGARH: Rotary Club of Dibrugarh started Ganit Setu, an initiative under Global Grant GG- 2352874 of The Rotary Foundation with an aim to transform mathematics education in rural and remote government schools across Assam and Himachal Pradesh.

It is supported by The Rotary Foundation, five Rotary Clubs from the USA, Rotary clubs of Edina Rotary, Edina Morningside, Eden Prairie Noon, Eden Prairie Morning, South Minneapolis Rotary, Rotary Districts 5950 (USA), Rotary District 3240 (India), Aanaajoree, a grassroots education NGO, and has the Rotary Club of Dibrugarh as the host club.

A capacity enhancement programme was organized at the Rotary Community Centre, Dibrugarh on May 26 and 27 with resource persons from Aavishkaar Yaatraa, Palampur Himachal Pradesh.

Altogether, 29 Mathematics teachers of government schools, located in Dibrugarh district attended the training, which was centered on using game-based learning to reinforce mathematics basics.

The teachers were trained in innovative and interactive teaching methods in order to enhance their necessary competencies to support and guide their students.

A Ganit Mela was organized by the participating teachers in which new skills were acquired to make Maths learning more interesting and fun-filled.

A valedictory meeting was held which was presided by President Gurdeep Singh, with Rtn Gurjeet Kaur as Secretary. PDG Dr Kalpana Khound spoke on the Ganit Setu initiative. Dr Pranjal Buragohain, Assistant Professor, Department of Education, Dibrugarh University, opined that Mathematics could be made interesting by the methods which were being put to practice through the Ganit Setu programme. He was very appreciative of the initiative that was taken by Rotary Club of Dibrugarh.

Dr Samiron Borah, AES, Inspector of Schools, Dibrugarh District Circle, said that the training that had been imparted in ten government schools of Dibrugarh district, including three tea garden model schools since 2024 was very useful and definitely created a positive effect.  He appreciated the initiative taken by Rotary Club of Dibrugarh to support the cause of Maths Education in the district.

Three participants of the programme, Jumi Neog, Tingrai Chariali Higher Secondary School, Angkita Bora, Dikom High School, and Sandip Banik, Naliapool Bengali High School, also spoke on the occasion and thanked the Rotary Club of Dibrugarh for the very useful initiative. Ridhi spoke on the experience of the resource persons during the Ganit Setu activities in Dibrugarh district.

Certificates of participation were handed over to the participating teachers. The formal vote of thanks was offered by CA Rtn Vijay Kumar Deorah. The meeting was attended by Rotarians, media personnel, and well wishers of Rotary.
