PATHSALA: The Assam Sahitya Sabha has created history by crafting the largest Japi ever made, earning a prestigious place in the India Book of Records.
The 555 sq meter and 13.3 meter radius Japi was unveiled during the 77th Biennial Pathsala Conference in Bhattadev Khetra in Bajali, marking a new milestone in the celebration of Assamese culture. This grand Japi is a stunning representation of Assamese tradition and craftsmanship. It has been meticulously crafted using woven bamboo, cane, and a large palm leaf, staying true to the age-old techniques that have been passed down through generations.
Meanwhile, a science and book fair, and various traditional programmes also attracted people at the conference. A symbolic gateway to literature and culture was unveiled by Krishna Roy, a renowned figure from Pathsala and the recipient of the Assam Saurav Award. Ranjeet Kumar Dass, Assam Cabinet Minister for Panchayat and Rural Development, Judicial, Tourism, and General Administration, expressed his pride and excitement at the event. He noted the significance of the occasion in promoting Assamese literature and culture.
