Assam: School girl dies due to kidney failure in Baliaghat

GAURISAGAR: Sumu (Junuka) Das, the eldest daughter of Jiten Das and Gita Das of Pathalial village in Baliaghat on the outskirts of Gaurisagar in Sivasagar, breathed her last on Tuesday evening due to kidney failure. Sumu was a student of class IX in Gaurisagar High School. She was 14 years old. She has been undergoing treatment at Jorhat Medical College and Hospital. The sudden demise of the girl has been widely mourned in the entire Gaurisagar area. The victim’s body arrived home on Tuesday evening and the school’s family paid their last respects on behalf of the school’s junior assistant and cultural activist Montu Kalita. One minute silence prayer was held and teaching were suspended at the school on Tuesday. She is survived by her parents, a sister and brother and relatives.
