Assam: School Teacher Arrested For Allegedly Sexually Molesting Minor In Morigaon

The family members of the victim filed a complaint against the perpetrator after which the school teacher was arrested on the afternoon of May 12 based on the complaint.

Guwahati: A school teacher in the Morigaon district in Assam has been apprehended on charges of sexually molesting a minor student.

As per reports, the teacher has been identified as Bhaben Nath, who allegedly sexually harassed a student in the 8th grade on multiple occasions.

The victim's family and locals have alleged that Nath had been committing this heinous crime since last year.

The family members of the victim filed a complaint against the perpetrator after which the school teacher was arrested on the afternoon of May 12 based on the complaint.

The police informed that Nath is currently being interrogated and further legal proceedings will be initiated soon.

Earlier, in an official order, Dr Surajit Bhagawati, the Principal of ADP College, Nagaon was placed under suspension with immediate effect by the Director of Higher Education, Assam DK Mili on April 14.

The authority concerned initiated the action on the basis of a complaint filed by one contractual teacher and others of the college. Significantly, in the order, he was also asked not to leave the headquarters without prior permission of the authority concerned.

It is pertinent to mention that two female teachers of the college filed two separate cases against Dr Surajit Bhagawati in Nagaon police station over personal humiliation as well as sexual harassment. Besides, Dr Bhagawati also filed another case against one of those two female teachers alleging that she tried to blackmail him for not providing a chance to appear in an interview which was scheduled to fill up a post of lecturer in the Botany Department.

On the other hand, Nagaon Sadar police led by OC Monuj Rajbongshi arrested Dr Surajit Bhagawati from the Ambari area  while he was taking shelter at the house of his elder sister, sources said, adding that the police immediately executed medical tests in Guwahati and made all arrangements to bring him back to Nagaon Police Station for further legal proceedings.
