SILCHAR: The Silchar-Hailakandi Road is undergoing construction work, leading to temporary traffic restrictions. A 4m x 4m RCC box cell culvert is being built between C.R. Avenue Point and Shani Mandir.

Due to this, one key lane has been closed from February 5 and will remain inaccessible until March 20, 2025.

As per the Office of the Executive Engineer (PWRD), Silchar & Udharbond Territorial Road Division, vehicles can only use the remaining lane during this period.

Earlier, in December, the left-hand side lane of the same stretch had also been closed for similar construction work. Initially, the restriction was planned from December 3 to December 31, 2024, but delays have extended it beyond February 2025.

With only one functional lane, vehicles from both directions must share the space, which may lead to congestion. Authorities have advised commuters to be cautious while traveling through the area and to plan accordingly. The ongoing construction aims to strengthen the road and improve drainage.

The Regional Office of Information & Public Relations, Barak Valley Zone, Silchar, has shared this update to keep the public informed.
