MANGALDAI: Making all the enthusiastic alumni nostalgic with their days in the school, the silver jubilee of JNV Darrang at Udmari near Kalaigaon rolled down its colourful curtain on December 22 with a number of events amidst pomp and splendour. The Alumni Association of JNV Darrang and the Silver Jubilee celebration committee jointly organized the two day duration event. JNV Darrang at Udmari near Kalaigaon established in 1995 has already completed its glorious twenty five years. Golap Hussain Ahmed marked the beginning of the two days concluding ceremony on December 21 by hoisting the flag followed by homage paying ceremony conducted by JNV teacher Dilip Dutta. A large number of alumni, students wearing different traditional attire took part in the cultural rally flagged off by ‘Padmashree’ recipient Darrangi folk artist Drona Bhuyan.
In the open session presided over by senior journalist Jayanta Kumar Das, alumnus Dr Mustafizur Rahman offered the introductory speech while Principal of JNV Mayawan Gandhi in his welcome speech appreciated the initiative of the Alumni Association for successfully organising the event. Taking part in the celebration as the chief guest, Prof Uday Shankar Dixit of IIT Guwahati laid stress on the need for improving the qualities of science education in the state. “Practical activities are mostly ignored while teaching science subjects in Assam, so students must do practical experiments at school as well as at homes,” he advised. Former Principal of JNV Madhab Sarma, Principal of JNV Sonitpur Rajesh Kumar Verma, senior journalist Bhargab Kumar Das, social activist Krishna Boro, founder teacher of JNV Darrang K Chauba Singh in their speeches narrated the history of the establishment of JNV Darrang at Kalaigaon in 1995 with special mention to freedom fighter late Pani Ram Das for his contribution in the establishment of JNV at Kalaigaon.
Three distinguished topper students namely Partha Pratim Deka (XII Humanities), Mirza Ahmed (XII science stream) and Khrista Jyoti Devi (X) were felicitated for their brilliant academic performances. Senior journalist Anupam Chakravorty conducted an one hour long exciting interactive session among the alumni titled “Navrang 25” to feel the nostalgia by reminiscing the good old days to take a trip down the memory lane in the afternoon followed by the grand cultural evening. Darshana Goswami and Bipul Deka of the Alumni Association expressed their hearty thanks to all the teachers, staff, students and alumni for making the celebration a grand success.
