GAURISAGAR: A joint sitting of Sivasagar Senior Citizens Association (SSCA) was held with the outgoing and the new committee members. The meeting was chaired by Kartick Dutta, the President of SSCA. In the meeting, a good number of resolutions were taken. Among them, demanding realignment of Sivasagar Railway lines and improvement of the Sivasagar Railway Station for stoppage of the Delhi-bound express trains, construction of a new RCC bridge replacing the British-era broken skeleton and a few others. Earlier, outgoing secretary Jogesh Rajkhowa and treasurer Himadri Baruah handed over the files to the new Secretary Biman Sensuwa. Raman Sharma was unanimously elected as the new Treasurer. Dr Prakash Kotoky, Executive President, SSCA appreciated the good work done by the old committee including the construction of the beautiful new office building at a cost of over Rs 50 lakh. Deben Baruah, former president, thanked the outgoing secretary Jogesh Rajkhowa for his outstanding dedication towards the organization. President Kartick Dutta, in his speech, assured the members that the committee continues to be as vigilant as before in keeping records and financial matters and that the Rs 2 lakh donated by The Retired ONGC Employees Association would be used in the construction of the boundary wall. He also apprised the members that Jorhat MP Gaurav Gogoi was approached for a grant for construction of a modern conference hall on the first floor and his support for acquiring another piece of government land near the President office building.
The new body of executives decided to hold a get-together every 1st Saturday of the month from June next. The meeting also took a resolution to change names for financial transactions in the banks and demanded the Postal Authority’s attention in opening the ATM inside HPO in Sivasagar. The meeting expressed serious concern over the indifferent attitude of the administration in respecting senior citizens’ petitions for removing civic woes. Lalit Kalita, Pradip Bordoloi, Dilip Saikia, Manoj Kr Borthakur, and many others took part in the discussion.
