NUMALIGARH: The Marangi regional committee of the Satra Mukti Sangram Samiti (SMSS) submitted a memorandum to the Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) authority yesterday, demanding the establishment of cold storage facilities in every village of the Marangi area to benefit the local farmers.
The memorandum, signed by SMSS’s central Assistant General Secretary Pintu Gogoi, Marangi regional committee President Tapan Das, and Secretary Pranabjyoti Barua, highlighted the plight of farmers in the area who are unable to store their products due to the lack of cold storage facilities. Gogoi, while speaking to the media, expressed his concern over the issue and stated that the NRL authorities have a significant responsibility towards the farmers of the Marangi area, who have been affected by the refinery’s operations. “We are not against the NRL, but want the authorities to take responsibility for the welfare of the farmers who have been affected by the refinery’s operations,” Gogoi said.
The student body has also urged the NRL authorities to provide scientific and modern farming equipment to the farmers of the area, which would help them to increase their productivity and income.
