BAKSA: A tragic incident in Assam's Baksa district has raised alarms among wildlife advocates after a deer was struck and killed by a speeding dumper truck. The fatal accident took place in the Fatemabad Tea Estate's Mayangpara colony, close to the Bahbari range near Manas National Park.
According to reports, the deer had strayed out of the protected forest region when it was struck by the truck, which then dragged the animal for some distance before fleeing from the scene.
In spite of restrictions in place by the Baksa district transport department for the operation of dumper trucks, the heavy vehicles are still moving about without proper monitoring. This lack of enforcement has been a cause for alarm of safety for wildlife and human populations within the region.
In the wake of the accident, nature lovers and local conservationists are urging the authorities to act immediately. They are demanding strict traffic control, especially in areas that encircle wildlife sanctuaries. The loss of the deer is a sad reminder that wildlife conservation goes beyond national park borders and demands collective responsibility from the authorities and the community.
Local authorities are now being pressured to increase traffic enforcement efforts to prevent more catastrophes and ensure protection for wildlife in the region. The accident highlights the need for an immediate, concerted effort towards wildlife conservation and road safety in areas where human and animal habitats converge.
