GUWAHATI: State BJP chief Bhabesh Kalita has reportedly urged the people of Assam to light fewer earthen lamps this Diwali due to the rise in mustard oil prices.
While speaking to the media, the BJP President said that people should celebrate green Diwali.
While asking about the rising prices of mustard oil, he said that prices are rising but people will never leave to celebrate the festival of light. He said, "If someone has lightened 50 earthen lamps earlier, this year they would light 10 diyas but the celebration will be on."
Earlier, on the price rise of mustard oil, Kalita said that the price will reduce after harvesting of mustard cultivation.
"We have not started cultivation of mustard till now this year. Once we start and the crop is harvested, the price of oil will also decrease", he claimed.
Assam BJP president Bhabesh Kalita in the context of rising fuel oil prices said that he will urge the state government to consider tripling on two-wheelers after petrol prices touch Rs 200.
"When petrol prices touch Rs 200, the state government can be approached for permission to allow tripling on two-wheelers," Assam BJP chief Bhabesh Kalita had said.
The Assam BJP chief further said that people should avoid using cars and instead opt for tripling on two-wheelers to counter the high prices of petrol and diesel.
Significance Of Lighting Lamps
Light is significant in Hinduism because it signifies purity, goodness, good luck, and power. The existence of light means the non-existence of darkness and evil forces. Since Diwali is celebrated on the new moon day when it is absolute darkness everywhere, people light millions of lamps to get rid of the darkness and it is believed that evil spirits and forces become active when there is no light. So, lamps are lit in every corner of the house to weaken these evil forces.
