BISWANATH CHARIALI: The Assam State Power Workers' Union has strongly protested the transfer of three employees of APGCL, NTPS of Namrup, Dibrugarh by the management of Assam Power Generation Corporation Limited (APGCL). This was stated here on Friday by publicity secretary Utpal Saikia and assistant publicity secretary Pranab Khatniar in a press statement.

They have also urged the APGCL authorities for the withdrawal of the transfers and to stop the attack on the union, failing which strong agitation will be resorted against the authorities. The union has alleged that the generator of the newly-converted power plant of Namrup Thermal Power Plant got burnt down recently during the test run of the project. The union demanded the authorities of the power plant to push the manufacturing company Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) for the installation of new generators instead of repairing the burnt generator. The union also objected to BHEL taking away the faulty generator until the supply of the new generator was assured. But all of a sudden, the APGCL management directed the transfer of three top members of the union to other power plants which are either under construction or shut down. Work is yet to begin in the under construction Kapili Hydropower Project and the Karbilampi Hydropower Project was shut down. In such a case, the purpose of transferring staff from an ongoing project is motivated, the union alleged.
