Assam: Stone pelting on MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi's vehicle on NH-37; accused held

BOKAKHAT: A miscreant pelted stones at a luxury vehicle (AS01AN9111) belonging to Mariani MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi near Borchapori tea estate on National Highway 37, under Bokakhat police station limits, close to Numaligarh.

The impact of the stone shattered the front windshield of the vehicle, with MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi narrowly escaping serious injury. His family members, including a small child, were also in the vehicle at the time. The MLA sustained minor injuries.

The incident caused a sensation in the entire region. Bokakhat police promptly reached the scene and took all necessary measures, ensuring the safety and security of MLA Kurmi. The area has reportedly seen frequent incidents of stone and brick pelting at moving vehicles by miscreants.

Meanwhile, the main accused in the stone-pelting incident targeting Rupjyoti Kurmi's vehicle surrendered on Thursday at Bokakhat police station. A youth named Biplab Gowala was identified as the one who committed the act. Bokakhat police arrested Biplab Gowala and arranged to produce him before the court.
