Assam : Student Harassed And Stripped In The Name Of Ragging

GUWAHATI : Adding to the list of unfortunate ragging cases in Assam, one more such incident came forward from Guwahati's Assam Engineering Institute (AEI). A student from the junior year was harassed by senior year students.

As per the reports, the victim was stripped and tortured in the name of ragging.

One of the senior also snatched away a gold chain that belonged to the junior student of the institution. Apart from that, the senior boys also used abused him verbally and whipped him brutally.

Reports also asserted that, the victim was demanded Rs 500, which he refused to give. As a result the notorious seniors thrashed him in a violent manner. The victim student has been identified as Bishal Kashyap Saloi. The boy had registered a case in Guwahati's Chandmari Police Station.

He filed the FIR in relation with the torture he went through in the name of ragging. In the complaint, he mentioned about the hostel captain called Devajit Bodo and two other senior students. The hostility of the seniors crossed the limit when they destroyed the victim's two wheeler motorbike.

Despite continuous efforts by the college authorities and state government, the issue of ragging is still haunting many in different regions. The most horrific of them was the recent ragging case in Dibrugarh University.

The incident shook the entire country as the victim jumped off the second floor of his hostel room to escape being ragged by his seniors. Later the boy had to undergo two major surgeries, critically injured his spine and wrist bones. Several names came forward in the matter and few were rusticated from the University.

Just a day after this incident, another episode of ragging came forward from Assam Medical College in Dibrugarh. Students involved in the case were suspended from the college and hostel for six months for harassing their junior both mentally and physically.
