Assam: Tangla Town Youth Club to Host 1st Basanta Utsav from April 30

TANGLA: The newly-formed Tangla Town Youth Club of Udalguri district is set to organize its first annual Basanta Utsav with a vibrant three-day programme from April 30 to May 2 at the Tangla Higher Secondary School playground. The Lai-Khuta (main pillar) of the event was erected on Monday at the venue.

As per the schedule, the celebrations will begin on April 30 at 8 am with a community cleanliness drive. At 9 am, the festival flag will be hoisted by the president of the celebration committee, Simanta Kumar Deka. Former vice-president of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), Dr. Jayanta Kumar Bhattacharya, will lead the homage to martyrs ceremony.

In the evening, Bhergaon SDPO Durga Konkar Sharma will inaugurate the Bihu stage at 4 pm.

On May 1, a drawing competition will be held at 9 am, to be conducted by artists Kalyan Rabha, Himangshu Bora, and Jugal Kishore Chaliha. In the evening, a state-level open Bihu competition and ethnic folk dance performances will be held, which will be inaugurated by noted social worker Ajay Deka.

The best-performing team in the Bihu competition will receive a cash prize of Rs 30,001 in memory of Nidhiram Bora, while the second-best team will be awarded Rs 20,001 in memory of Kusheswar Baruah.

On the final day, May 2, the cultural evening will be inaugurated by noted social worker Jousrang Boro. Eminent singer Dipen Baruah and rising artiste Marmita Mitra will enthrall the audience with their musical performances.

To ensure the smooth execution of the three-day celebration, the organizing committee has formed 18 sub-committees. Working president Nayanjyoti Baruah and general secretaries Biswajit Deka and Lochan Sarma have appealed for wholehearted support, cooperation, and enthusiastic participation from the citizens to make the event a grand success.
