Assam: Tangsa Hakhun Community Celebrates Grand Chahbu KUQ Festival in Ledo

MARGHERITA: Tangsa Hakhun community biggest Tangsa Hakhun Chahbu KUQ (seed sowing festival) was celebrated today at Malu Gaon, Ledo, in Margherita Co-District with a grand ceremony. Tangsa Hakhun Chahbu KQU is the seed sowing festival of the Tangsa Hakhun community people living all over the world. The programme began with an opening prayer by Pastors Thokthum Hakhun and Lokhi Hakhun. Tehon Hakhun Village Pradhan of Malu gaon, Ledo, delivered the welcome speech.

An open session was held which was presided by Tehan Hakhun Village Pradhan of Malu Village where many renowned and distinguished persons such as Nong Yongkuk, President of All Assam Tangsa National Council, Manwang Lowang, King of Pungsum Thong village Tirap District of Arunachal Pradesh, Nayung Mossang, President of All Assam Tangsa Student Union, Raney Arai, Pastor of Pungsum Thong Village Nocte Baptist Church Association, Ringnong Tyring, President of Naga Welfare Society Tinsukia district committee, N Changmi, President of Tirap Changlang Longding People’s Forum, Emtong Taidong, Gaon Pradhan of Tikak Malu Gaon, Shyam Lungchang, Village Secretary Tikak Malu Gaon, Nyanong Lungching, Gaon Pradhan of Phinbiro Village, Jagat Changmai, veteran journalist and renowned artist from Ledo, Dr Ranjit Dutta, noted social worker and litterateur of Margherita, Sukhdev Sharma, President of Margherita Anchalik Panchayat, Dheeraj Sonowal, social worker of Ledo, along with hundreds of Tangsa Hakhun community people attended.

Khumton Hakhun, President of the reception committee said that the Tangsa Hakhun community people came from Mongolia and China and scattered all over the world and have their own manuscripts, culture, customs, tradition, language, rites, and rituals which are different from other communities.

“Tangsa Hakhun Chahbu KUQ is the biggest festival of the Tangsa Hakhun community which our ancestors have celebrated and now we are keeping the legacy alive as we 80 percent of Tangsa Hakhun community live in Myanmar and remaining 20 % live in the Tinsukia district of Assam,” said Khumton Hakhun. Tangsa Hakhun community traditional dances, songs, and other items were performed which enthralled everyone.
