Assam: Last Singpho King Passes Away at Bisa Gaon, Ledo, under Margherita co-district

Singpho king Bisa Nong Singpho, the last king of the Singpho tribe, passed away on Wednesday at his residence at Bisa Gaon, Ledo, under the Margherita co-district.

Dibrugarh: Singpho king Bisa Nong Singpho, the last king of the Singpho tribe, passed away on Wednesday at his residence at Bisa Gaon, Ledo, under the Margherita co-district.  Bisa Nong Singpho, a well-known name in the area, passed away on Wednesday night due to old age-related ailments. He had been undergoing treatment for the past few months at his home, a Singpho tribe heritage residence, situated at Bisa Gaon of Ledo.

Bisa Nang Singpho will be remembered for making a significant contribution to the Singpho society as well as to the overall social life, and his death has sent shockwaves among the people of upper Assam and those in the neighbouring state of Arunachal Pradesh. Bisa Nang Singpho was the last king of the Singpho tribe, a tribe that resides in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

He had been undergoing treatment at his home for many months for old age-related ailments, and at the time of death, Bisa Nang Singpho was 76 years old.

"The king's religion is to give equal status to the subjects with equal vision as success in practicing Rajdharma in his golden way of life; that's why he breaks the boundaries and is everyone's favourite, irrespective of caste, creed, race, language, and religion," said D B Sonar, a tea planter and noted social worker of Margherita.

"Bisa Nang Singpho's simple speech will always ring in people's ears. He took steps to unite all ethnic groups and will always remain a symbol of harmony in the hearts of the people. He did not allow himself to be affected by the trappings of modernity, and he kept to the royal hereditary tradition, with his clan remaining intact. He set a pattern for the upliftment of the Singpho community and is a real inspiration for everyone," said Jagat Changmai, veteran journalist, eminent litterateur, and best friend of Bisa Nang Singpho.

Margherita Journalists Association, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Ledo Xakha Xahitya Xabha, Margherita MLA Bhaskar Sharma, Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad(AJYCP) Margherita Regional Committee,Tinsukia District Committee, Assam Tea Tribes Student Association (ATTSA) Margherita branch committee, All Assam Tangsa Student Union, All Assam Singpho Student Union, Man Tai Speaking Student Union, All Assam Gaon Pradhan Association, veteran journalist of Ledo Jagat Changmai, eminent litterateur and poet Dr Ranjit Dutta and many organizations of Margherita, including Singpho tribes residing in the neighbouring state of Arunachal Pradesh conveyed deep condolences to the bereaved family members of Bisa Nang Singpho. Singpho chieftain Bisa Nang Singpho left behind his wife, 5 sons, 6 daughters, and a host of relatives.
