Tangla: Police have charged the stepbrother of two young boys with murder after their bodies were discovered on December 21 in Santopara, Tangla, Udalguri district, with their throats cut.

Neeraj Sharma of Tongla was taken into custody for the murder of his younger stepbrothers, who disappeared on Friday, December 20, after they left for school.

Neeraj Sharma has been detained for the double murder, according to Bodoland Territorial Region IGP Vivek Raj Singh, who also added that a motorbike and the murder weapon used in the crime have been recovered.

"The two victims, Gaurav and Kaushik, were reported missing since Friday after they left home for school. Their bodies were discovered this morning by a local resident, who alerted police," Singh said.

“Evidence was collected from the crime scene, and suspects were questioned. During the course of the investigation, we learned that their stepbrother Neeraj was involved in the murders,” he added.

Singh said that Neeraj had committed the act in a remote area while riding his motorbike to school with the boys. He affirmed, "There is no evidence of the involvement of anyone else in the crime so far."

When questioned about the reason for the killings, Singh stated,"Neeraj was feeling neglected and aggrieved towards their father for the lack of attention. It seems he was depressed, but we have not found any evidence of drug addiction.”
