
BONGAIGAON: A tragic incident in Bongaigaon has left the people mourning following a road accident involving a police officer's private vehicle, which caused the death of a teenage school girl. The accident took place in the central part of the town, sparking public outcry and protests.
Nileshwar Medhi, a traffic policeman, is said to have lost control of his vehicle, causing the accident. The community was left in a sense of shock and outrage at the death of the girl, leading residents to march on the streets calling for accountability.
Protests were intensified at Bongaigaon Sadar Police Station, where protesters came out to demand speedy justice. Main roads in town were clogged as hundreds of people took part in demonstrations, calling on the authorities to impose strong punishment against the officer concerned.
In response to the growing public outcry, Superintendent of Police Mohanlal Meena suspended Nileshwar Medhi with immediate effect. The district administration has also pledged financial assistance to the victim's family as an act of goodwill during these hard times.
