BOKAKHAT: In Khatiakhuli, under Bokakhat Police Station, three cows were stolen on Wednesday night from the cowshed of a man named Haren Gogoi. The thieves cleverly opened the cowshed and took away the cows. The cows were still in the shed until around 2am. By around 3am, after suspecting a theft, local people chased the cattle thieves, but the culprits managed to escape with the cows in a vehicle. The locals handed over a suspicious individual to the police.

Though the police and local village defense parties are aware that cattle thefts have been ongoing for a long time, villagers have raised serious concerns over their failure to protect livestock. These thefts have caused massive losses to many cattle owners in the Bokakhat sub-division and pushed several families into poverty. Many families depend on cattle rearing for their livelihood, but within a single night, everything gets lost.
