Assam: Tezpur hosts annual central session of Xahitya Sanskriti Sadhana Manch

TEZPUR: With a colourful celebration of Assam’s diverse ethnic and cultural traditions, the 3rd Annual Central Session of Xahitya Sanskriti Sadhana Mancha, Asom concluded at the Centenary Hall of Tezpur Government Higher Secondary School.  The two-day event was organized by the Sonitpur district unit of the Mancha with support from literature and culture enthusiasts from across the state.

Formed with the vision of promoting literary and cultural pursuits while upholding India’s democratic values and constitutional sanctity, the Mancha is committed to fostering unity among people of all faiths, castes, and communities through shared heritage and grassroots talent discovery.

The inaugural ceremony began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by General Secretary Niranjan Bora, followed by the flag hoisting by Central President Dilip Kumar Kakati. A tribute ceremony was led by Bihu expert and former president Hem Gogoi, who also presented a traditional Bihu performance that delighted the audience. A tree plantation drive was conducted by Manju Barhoi, Principal of the host school. Dr Mitali Goswami, Librarian of Tezpur College, inaugurated the Book Fair, encouraging young readers to embrace books as loyal companions.

After the central representative meeting, a Xahitya Sanmilani and Felicitation Programme was inaugurated by social worker and poet Bankim Baruah, and moderated by Working President Hemanta Kishore Pathak. The event drew authors, poets, and cultural delegates from across Assam and Northeast India, filling the venue with an air of literary vibrancy.

Notable poets and writers such as Narhari Chutia, Rinjumoni Neog Bora, Nijumoni Saikia Bora, Nasreen Sultana, and Anup Asomiya participated in the evening poetry sessions coordinated by Ranjit Kumar Saikia and Deepika Phukan. The youth poetry conference was inaugurated by renowned poet Dilip Phukan, who called on writers to remain rooted in their mother tongue and folk traditions.

On the second day, a cultural procession showcased the rich cultural diversity of Assam’s ethnic communities. Prof Satish Chandra Bhattacharya, a noted archaeologist and retired professor of Darrang College, inaugurated the event, emphasizing the national relevance of preserving Assam’s literary and cultural legacy.

A free health camp was inaugurated by doctor and short story writer Dr Rana Mukut Keot. The open session was inaugurated by educationist Mahendra Nath Keot, who stressed the importance of nurturing young talent for cultural preservation.

In his keynote address at the souvenir release, noted academic Purneshwar Nath emphasized the need for collective responsibility to overcome challenges in the field of literature and culture.

The souvenir titled ‘Sonit Subash,’ edited by poet Mridul Kumar Saharia, was released by Dr Saru Saharia Nath, former president of Sadou Asom Lekhika Samaroh Samiti. She emphasized the responsibility of writers to uphold their mother tongue and praised the Mancha’s impactful work over the past three years in building a literary environment for emerging talents.

The open session was graced by central spokesperson Taher Uddin Ahmed, former Asam Sahitya Sabha secretary Yadava Chandra Sharma, writers like Rebati Mohan Timcina, Dr Bhabeshwar Saharia, poet, and Dhaniram Tisso, among others.

President Dilip Kakati acknowledged the support and encouragement the Mancha has received over the past three years and highlighted the contributions of the younger generation toward literature, language, and culture.
