
SILCHAR: Cachar Police successfully intercepted a major drug shipment on Tuesday evening during a search operation at Digorkhal gate in Assam's Cachar.
Acting on credible intelligence, officers stopped a night bus operated by Deep Travels (registration number AR 11A 7199) traveling from Silchar to Guwahati and discovered a substantial quantity of heroin in passengers' bags.
The operation led to the seizure of 102 grams of suspected heroin, concealed inside nine soap boxes. The illegal consignment was linked to three passengers, identified as Bulbul Ali Laskar from Singirband and Ruma Begum and Baby Begum, both residents of the Banskandi area in Cachar. Police arrested the trio, who are believed to be suppliers of narcotic substances.
The seized drugs is believed to be valued at several lakhs of rupees. This bust is part of Cachar Police’s intensified crackdown on narcotics, aimed at disrupting illegal drug networks operating in Assam.
In another significant anti-drug operation, Assam Police seized heroin worth Rs. 2 crore in Mankachar and arrested a woman, Mulukjan Nessa, while the main accused, Noor Islam, escaped.
The raid, led by ASP Pratap Das, DSP Ansal Sharma, and other officers, uncovered heroin reportedly sourced from Manipur. Meanwhile, Laharighat Police arrested three individuals during a raid in Amaraguri, recovering 11.26 grams of heroin.
Basistha police seized 16.17 grams of heroin from Manash Jyoti Medhi, and Pan Bazar police arrested Sahidul Islam, recovering 29.43 grams of heroin. Additionally, Tinsukia police intercepted a large heroin consignment smuggled from Nagaland, arresting three individuals.
