Hojai: The closing-cum-prize distribution ceremony of the three-day Teachers' Sports and Cultural Convention, organized under the aegis of Jugijaan and Lanka Elementary Education Blocks of Hojai district, was held at Swami Vivekananda Stadium in Hojai on Sunday evening.

The convention, which began on April 4 and concluded on April 6, featured a variety of sports and cultural activities.

The closing ceremony was held under the presidentship of Jayanta Choudhury, Working President of the Teachers' Sports and Cultural Convention. Kamal Dutta, noted educationist and social worker, graced the occasion as the chief guest. Ashim Mazumdar, General Secretary of the Hojai Sports Association, and Nikhil Kumar Mundra, advocate and social worker, attended the event as guests of honour.

Speaking on the occasion, Kamal Dutta expressed his happiness at witnessing the teachers' enthusiasm. He stated that such events provide a platform for teachers to showcase their hidden talents and promote mutual cooperation and physical fitness. He emphasized that similar events should be organized regularly in the future.

Ashim Mazumdar also lauded the initiative and assured his full support in organizing future events at the stadium. All guests praised the efforts of the Teachers' Sports and Cultural Convention for successfully conducting such an inspiring and engaging programme.

Jayanta Choudhury informed that the event was first initiated in 2020 by TET-qualified teachers in Hojai. He emphasized that the programme is self-funded by teachers with the aim of providing a stage for the teaching fraternity to exhibit their talents and foster unity. He highlighted the significance of such events in setting examples for society and students.

The objective of the programme was briefly presented by Debojit Bora, Secretary of the Teachers' Sports and Cultural Convention. A total of 150 participants took part in various sports and cultural activities during the three-day convention.

Prizes for the State Song Competition were awarded in memory of the late Sabitri Choudhury, mother of Jayanta Choudhury. Additionally, he distributed 100 neem tree saplings among all the winners. A plantation drive was also conducted at the stadium premises at the beginning of the ceremony.
