TINSUKIA: In the wake of extreme inconveniences faced by the public of Tinsukia due to artificial waterlogging caused by unplanned digging of roads and construction of drains along with laying of water supply pipelines that were undertaken simultaneously and erroneously, the Tinsukia District Administration held an emergency meeting with all stakeholders on Wednesday. The intermittent rains caused further woes to the public as sludge from the drains was dumped on the road.

Swapneel Paul, DC Tinsukia, chaired the meeting in which Sanjoy Kishan, MLA Tinsukia, Pulak Chetia, Chairman Tinsukia Municipal Board, ADC (ULB) Mirzana Hussain, all Ward Commissioners of TMB, Biswajit Bhuyan, Town Planner Tinsukia, Pratap Hazarika, EE PWD Roads, representatives of NHIDCL, and representatives of citizens from various parts of Tinsukia town were present and expressed their views.

The DC emphasised on the importance of regular monitoring of water-logged areas and the interventions to be taken. He also stated that from now on, the action plan for solving waterlogging shall be monitored every month by DC Tinsukia through a physical meeting with all stakeholders.

The meeting discussed the water logging issues in areas like Main Drain Network in Jyotinagar, Chaliha Nagar, Bordoloi Nagar, Court Tiniali, Borguri, Raja Ali Road, Thandagarh, Milanpally Area, Makum Road, Parbotia Road, Amrit Tamuly Road, VIP Road, and West Sripuria area. The meeting also discussed immediate intervention and means for long-term solutions.

It can be mentioned here that Chairman TMB Pulak Chetia had assured at a media briefing recently that the damaged roads would be repaired before the onset of the monsoon but nothing happened as such. In a laudable step, DC Swapneel Paul made an on-spot study of the deplorable Parbotia Road, the alternative lifeline of Tinsukia on Wednesday and assessed the situation with a team of officials. He instructed the concerned departments to take early measures to resolve the problems on an immediate basis.
