GUWAHATI: In a new development in the northeastern state of Assam, an open-spaced zoo will be introduced in Silchar of lower Assam where animals will be left free to move anywhere and can travel to various places as per their wish.

On Wednesday 19 January, the Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made the announcement that Assam is soon going to get an open-spaced zoo at Silchar in the Cachar district of Assam.

The major announcement was made by the CM after the Cabinet meeting organized at the Haflong region in the Dima Hasao district of Assam on Wednesday.

The open space zoo will be set up in such a way that all animals residing will be allowed to utilize the environment of the zoo more as they would use their habitat in jungles or forest areas.

It is informed that the open space zoo will be established with a high budget amount of Rupees 214 crore. The total area of the proposed site for the zoo will be around 200 hectares and the construction will be done without causing any harm to the flora in the area.

The animals will not remain restricted or confined within four walls instead they can move wherever they wish to.

The open space zoo will introduce the new concept of giving animals the opportunity to travel to different locations without any limitations.

People will have to take a safari ride or the help of other vehicles to visit the zoo in view of watching the animals as it may be risky if they walk inside the zoo like before because animals here will be left free.

With this new development and change in the sector of wildlife preservation, the zoos will look like more dynamic institutions instead of looking like a museum with animals caged.

Various facilities will be made available by the Assam government for the zoo cum wildlife rehabilitation center and such facilities include a food-processing unit and veterinary health care.

The main objective of this new open space zoo in Silchar is to protect the wildlife across the state and provide proper facilities in their habitat.
